varsity checkerboard quilt - give away

I drooled, dreamed, schemed over this online picture of varsity with the rest of you for WHAT SEEMED LIKE AN ETERNITY!

This mini charm pack was my first virtual sighting.  I couldn't resist.  Before too long and several trips back to an etsy basement store (couldn't even wait for the mail man), I had 6 or 8 of them.

and was furiously sewing away.  This method of checker boarding is so intriguing, but not recommended, it's only for impulse quilters with lots of mini charm packs.

 this method is much faster.

why you ask?

ETERNAL TRIMMING.

are you still using your archaic square rotating board?  or have you discovered the matilda's cutting mat?  YES, more than just the earth is round.  learn about it here

  1. 51 years sewing and quilting! I've been sewing since I was 7 and my grandmother showed me how to make a blanket for my dolly. It was patchwork squares. I sewed on a treadle machine until I won an electric at the County Fair in 1971.

  4. Wow - beautiful - and I LOVE the spiral quilting! I've been quilting for about 10 years - but only got the room for my own sewing space about 6 years ago - so that's when I really began in earnest.

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  11. Sewing for 60 years, quilting for one. Pending arrival of first grandchild promptd me to quilt. Previously I made embroidered quilts (from kits) because I enjoy embroidery. But the designs are no longer as pleasing. So I switched! Baby Henry has a beautiful quilt I made as well as the embroidered quilt I made his momma 35 years ago.

  12. I learned to quilt with a group from my church in April, 2000. 15 years before that I took a sewing class at a local Joann's Store, but never did much until I found quilting. I've been a member of my local guild for over 13 years. Thanks for the chance to win these wonderful scraps!!

    Happy Quilting!

  13. Love it. Was wondering how you did your spiral? Did you mark it? I'm working on one right now and only using my pressure foot as a guide. It is going really well but I'm afraid it's too dense.
Any suggestions? Thanks for sharing this. Have a great weekend.

  15. I've been sewing for about 30 years and started quilting about 20 years ago. I slowed down considerably when my kids were small but have a renewed interest in quilting again now that they are grown. I love your quilt and everything Sweetwater!

  16. Love your quilt and fabric choice. So refreshing. I have been sewing for 55 years and often think about those early years sewing clothing for my Mom and six sisters. Loved it all but didn't start quilting until two years ago. Spend way too much time researching designs and fabrics but know that I need to put in more time behind the machine. I still sew on the kitchen table and it's not a very efficient way to go. Working on trying to outfit a sewing corner. Dian at gdavidhoffmanatyahoodotcom

Bev, my first quilt in the "modern age" of rotary cutters and rulers was also a log cabin! :)
